ABV (Alcohol by Volume): The percentage of alcohol in the spirit. Most spirits are 40% ABV or higher.
Proof: In the US, proof is simply ABV multiplied by 2. So 40% ABV = 80 proof.
Tip: Higher proof doesn't necessarily mean better quality, but it can deliver more intense flavors.

While both are made primarily from corn and aged in new charred oak barrels, Tennessee whiskey undergoes an additional step called the Lincoln County Process—filtration through sugar maple charcoal before aging. This gives Tennessee whiskey a distinctively smooth character.
Bourbon can be made anywhere in the US and doesn't require this charcoal filtering. Both are excellent, just with slightly different flavor profiles!
